Are you willing to sacrifice own benefits to support others? Are you afraid of surrounding people catch up with you and even surpass you someday? Would you like to serve others silently without thinking about return? If your answers are positive, then you are supposed to be a qualified leader to unite people.

There is a vivid story from year one students:
After a long journey in desert, a man feels exhausted and dies for water. Fortunately, a bottle of water magically appears in front and catches his eyes. Before he open the bottle cap, a voice comes: this is a special drink. On one hand, if you open it, the fountain flows with a merry gurgle and you could entirely enjoy. However, once you drinks, others will never have chance to drink it and die for thirst. In the end, the man fulfills his own needs without consideration for others.
This story tells us if people become self-centered and only think their interest, the world will full of disaster and people suffer from difficulties. At the same time, if a leader can sacrifice his benefits and help others, both of them can achieve goals and strive for better future.

So a leader is not to lead on the top, but to concern about peers and sacrifice their own needs to support others. On the contrary, a haughty, stupid, hurtful and immoral leader could unties the group and bring disaster to the team. Now you can think about yourself, do you unite or untie your group?

Whether to be a leader or not, for me, it depends on which position can product most fruits for my team. Because leadership is a determinant factor for a team to achieve a common goal. To be precise, it is a communicating process to monitor and coordinate group members, provide support and feedback to them, and assume responsibility for the success or failure of the teamwork.

From my perspective, I admire a leader if he or her has confidence, persistence, self-efficiency and sociability. Maybe he is not the most intelligent one, or maybe without highest leader position t power. Firstly, an instruction from a confident leader sounds more reliable. If the leader does not believe in himself, who else will trust him and carry on his strategy? Secondly, persistent leader is more likely to accomplish a tough job. Additionally, a self- efficient leader can manage time to keep general meeting short yet efficient. At last, a sociable leader is good at communicating and keeping a favorable relationship with team members.

I have been in Honors College for more than half a year to learn leadership. So I scan myself and finds a little bit of shiny points. I am sociable for my easy going personality. So I could use proper communication skills to develop friendship with a sea of group members. Next, integrity is another quality for I have never committed bad things which benefit me at the expense of others. As a leader, I must be honest and obey rules rigidly. Sometimes I am a little bit aggressive because I always encouraging myself to make progress and achieve self-actualization. So I will encourage my team members to work harder and achieve high goals. The forth strength is I have a brave mind because I never feel fear to speak nervous in public occasions. So I will not dare to communicate in front of team members. Lastly, I am determined due to the reason that I have motivation to achieve clear goals by every effort. So I am confident in my group and never give up until success.

It seems I have equipped with some potential as a leader, so leadership fits me better.I will follow professor Dr. Zenon A.S. Udani to continuous explore the exciting leadership in this semester. Keep fighting and be active in class !

Today a professor form Macau Urban Planning Institute gives us a lecture on city planning and a brief talk on life.

Sustainable development and sustainability influence today's urban planners. Some planners say that modern lifestyles use too many natural resources, polluting or destroying ecosystems, increasing social inequality overheating urban heat islands, and causing climate changes. Many urban planners therefore advocate sustainable cities. Sustainable development is a pattern of resource use that aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for future generations.
As he said, Macau Light Transit System will be an effective way for transport. The Macau Light Transit System officially known as the Macau Light Rapid Transit is a proposed mass transport system
within the Special Administrative Region of Macau. The Macau LRT was first proposed in 2003 by the Macau SAR Government, but after the original proposal was rejected by the public, the final decision to build the LRT was not made until in October 2006. It is anticipated that the system will provide better transportation options and will relieve traffic congestions on roads and bridges. The Macau Light Transit System will be its first rapid transit system within the Special Administrative Region.

One the other hand, Dr Chui Sai Peng inspired us on the life topic. There are five factors to be success. Hard working is the first one because you could reap great fruit from your perspiration within your control. Nest ranks the luck, due to the undeniable facts that you cannot be promoted by senior managers unless they think you are good enough. Additionally, a degree is necessary for a distinguished job. Forth, having a broad range of knowledge about every subject could add weight. Finally working experience never fail to fascinate a Human Resource manager.

Do you still remember the first time you was a leader? Were you feel exciting, afraid, or confident? Have you successful performed your job? For me, it is an exhausted but impressive experience.

I was in charge of organizing an activity which contained performances of different countries by foreign exchange students and buffet to welcome them, in order to enhance their sense of belonging to the University of Macau. The budget was MOP8000, with 20 helpers. What was more, the event required presents and certificates for best performers, as well as lucky audiences by lottery draw. I lead this activity through planning, organizing, leading motivating and controlling.

The first step was planning: when I took this job initially, I set the ultimate goal which was to enhance the friendship between local students with foreigners through actively participant in performance, joining games and enjoying delicious meal.

Next was organizing: after planning the run down, I wrote a proposal to divide the whole event into several steps: opening speech, performance by exchange students, lottery draw, serving buffet and ending speech. To be a democratic leader, I consulted fellows and asked for suggestions to improve.

The third step was leading: after organizing for run down, I assigned certain jobs to different helpers and each of them took responsible only for his or her own part: MC, time controller, site designer, leader of each foreign country’s exchange students, presents purchaser, certificates buyer, person in charge of buffet, and financer.
Next action was motivating: I encouraged helpers to actively seek for responsibility for works and said motivating words such as, I was confident you can fulfill it on time. So that peers voluntarily contributed and enjoyed working on this project.

The last behavior was controlling: after assign jobs to my fellows, I regularly called them to know what they had done, what difficulties they encountered, in order to identify the difference between the goal and actual results, made improvements and corrected errors immediately.

On one hand, I own certain number of strengths as a excellent leader; on another hand, a lot of improvements are needed. However, I am confident in myself that I have great potential, because my leadership journey just begins.
